How custom insoles are made (step by step)

From biomechanical assessment to foam impression to the finished pair — exactly how a custom orthopaedic insole is made, and why it beats off-the-shelf.

Most people have only ever used the flat, generic insole that comes inside a shoe — or a one-size “arch support” off a rack. A custom orthopaedic insole is a different thing entirely: it’s built to the exact shape and movement of your foot. Here’s how we make one.

1. Biomechanical assessment

Everything starts with understanding how your foot loads the ground. We look at your arch type (flat, neutral or high), your heel alignment, and your gait — how your foot rolls as you walk. We also map the pressure points where you take too much load. This is the step a rack insole skips entirely, and it’s why generic supports so often don’t help.

If you’re in Pune, this happens hands-on in our Budhwar Peth shop. Anywhere else in India, we do it over a short video online fitting plus a few photos.

2. Capturing the shape of your foot

Next we capture your foot’s exact contours — either with a foam impression box (you press your foot in and it holds the shape) or a scan. This is what lets the insole match your arch and heel precisely, rather than approximately.

3. Building the insole to your prescription

Your assessment becomes a “prescription” — how much arch support, where to offload pressure, how firm or cushioned, and which material. We match the build to your need:

The pair is then crafted to that spec — typically in 3–7 working days.

4. Fitting, delivery and follow-up

In Pune we fit them to your shoes in person. Across India we courier them to your door. Either way, we follow up after you start wearing them to make sure the fit feels right — your feet take a week or two to adjust to proper support.

Why this beats off-the-shelf

A rack insole is one shape for millions of feet. A custom insole is one shape for your feet — so weight spreads evenly, your arch is supported where it actually needs it, and the strain that causes pain is reduced.
